Implementing a Competitive Drone Club

Drones are a powerful hook for student engagement and a natural bridge into STEM, coding, and real‑world problem solving. In this hands‑on session, educators will learn how to design, launch, and sustain a successful drone club at the school level, even with limited prior experience or equipment. Participants will explore different types of age‑appropriate drones, basic safety and legal considerations (including school and FAA guidelines), and practical purchasing tips that fit a variety of budgets. We will walk through sample club structures—weekly meeting agendas, roles for student leaders, and options for short “mini‑units” such as flight basics, coding missions, aerial photography, and simple competitions or challenges. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a concrete start‑up plan tailored to their own school context and a toolkit of strategies to keep students engaged, safe, and learning through drones.
