This workshop focuses on transforming traditional instruction into a student-centered environment that prioritizes thinking as the primary driver of achievement. Participants will explore strategies to close the gap between "knowing and using" by transitioning from surface-level procedures to deeper and transfer learning. Educators will engage with practical tools, including routines, strategies, and practices to promote curious learners who actively communicate, collaborate, and think critically. The session highlights a "cafeteria style" teaching analogy, emphasizing strategic implementation of cognitively demanding tasks such as modeling, discourse, and performance assessments. Participants will conclude by setting actionable goals to shift classroom systems toward protected time for student exploration and authentic sense-making.
