FPL’s Manatee Lagoon Sustainability Conference

On October 12, the Center for Educational Strategy & Innovation supported the School District of Palm Beach County Sustainability Conference, connecting educators with Florida Atlantic University faculty and subject-matter experts working in areas that directly impact our communities and our environment.

Our featured presenters include:

• Alexis Base, Ph.D. Candidate,  Department of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering, Florida Atlantic University
• Masoud Jahandar Lashaki, Ph.D., Associate Professor & Graduate Program Director
  Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering
• Bryan H. Nichols, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Science & Environmental Education
  Florida Atlantic University

Their presentations explored critical topics including water quality, air pollution, and conservation, helping educators connect environmental science and sustainability to real-world challenges.

This experience demonstrated the power of connecting teachers directly with university researchers and subject-matter experts. When educators have the opportunity to engage with current research and authentic scientific questions, they can bring that knowledge back to their classrooms in ways that make learning more relevant and meaningful for students.
