Cycle to Success: Empowering Teachers with Engaging Strategies for Cell Biology and Scientific Inquiry

This workshop integrates hands-on activities, pedagogical strategies, and curriculum alignment to strengthen both cell cycle instruction (grades 9-10) and Nature of Science skills (grades 5-8).

Unlock student curiosity and confidence in cell biology with this hands-on, one-day professional learning experience designed for Grades 5–10 science educators. Cycle to Success blends engaging investigations, modeling strategies, and standards-aligned instruction to deepen understanding of key concepts in the cell cycle, cell structure and function, and the organization of life.

Participants will explore real-world phenomena, conduct inquiry-based labs, and collaborate on strategies to support the Nature of Science skills while making complex life science topics accessible and meaningful. With a focus on the Florida Science Standards, this workshop provides practical tools for immediate classroom use—ensuring students not only learn about cells but think like scientists.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Investigate mitosis using models and microscopes or other tools.
  • Explore cell functions through hands-on simulations
  • Connect cell processes to homeostasis and energy flow
  • Align lessons with vertical learning progressions
  • Leave with ready-to-use resources and strategies

Whether you’re new to teaching life science/biology or looking to refresh your instructional toolkit, this workshop will leave you energized and equipped to guide students through the microscopic world of cells and the scientific practices that bring learning to life.
