Change The Story: Successful Mathematics Teaching and Learning for K-12 Mathematics Educators

This workshop is designed to support K-12 mathematics educators who want to improve their instructional practices to meet the needs of ALL students. To do so, we must “change the story” about how we teach and move beyond traditional approaches to mathematics instruction.

Participants will explore the ideas behind Math Workshop and Building Thinking Classrooms to create a student-centered mathematics classroom that supports students' mathematical thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Through hands-on activities, participants will practice, apply, and design effective instructional activities and use strategies for building a thinking classroom culture and strong mathematical community.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained a deeper understanding of how to create a student-centered classroom and best help students make sense of mathematics. Time will be included for participants to collaborate and develop plans for implementation!
