Transform the Narrative: Effective Science Instruction and Learning for K-12 Science Educators

Saturday, Aug 24, 2024

This workshop is designed to support K-12 science educators who want to improve their instructional practices to meet the needs of ALL students. To do so, we must “change the story” about how we teach and move beyond traditional approaches to teaching science.

Participants will explore the ideas behind the Inquiry and Sensemaking Workshop and Visible Learning to create a student-centered science classroom that supports students' scientific thinking, problem-solving, and reasoning skills. Through hands-on activities, participants will practice, apply, and design effective instructional activities and use strategies that focus on a student-centered classroom that builds on students' prior knowledge, discourse, and science practices.

By the end of the workshop, you'll know how to create a student-centered environment, empowering your students to understand science more deeply and increase their ability to make sense of science. Participants will also be able to collaborate with fellow educators to develop plans for implementing these strategies.
