SeaPerch: Underwater Robotics is a hands-on immersive program designed to provide STEM educators with the knowledge and resources necessary to delve into the fascinating world of underwater robotics. The primary goal of the workshop is to equip teachers with an understanding of fundamental science and engineering concepts, tool safety, technical applications, and the development of problem-solving and teamwork skills, all through an engaging and experiential learning format. The SeaPerch program introduces teachers to the construction and operation of underwater robots. During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to build and maneuver these robots, gaining firsthand experience with the technology. This hands-on learning experience fosters a deeper understanding of the engineering concepts and skills needed to build these intricate machines. Beyond building and operating the robots, the workshop emphasizes the pedagogical approach of teaching these concepts to students. Teachers will explore techniques for facilitating student learning in these areas, discussing strategies for problem-solving and promoting teamwork within their classrooms. As an added benefit, each participant will receive an unbuilt robot kit to take back to their classrooms, allowing them to directly apply the knowledge and skills gained during the workshop with their students. To further support the classroom application of these concepts, teachers will also be loaned out a toolkit equipped with all necessary components for building a SeaPerch robot with their students. This workshop offers a unique blend of hands-on learning, theoretical understanding, and practical classroom application. It is an excellent opportunity for STEM educators seeking innovative ways to engage their students and enhance their learning in the field of underwater robotics.
