This workshop is proudly offered through the Center for Educational Strategy & Innovation at Florida Atlantic Laboratory Schools, a hub for advancing research-driven educational practices.

In an age where artificial intelligence and neuroscience are increasingly intertwined, understanding the mathematical foundations behind brain science is more important than ever. This engaging workshop is designed specifically for high school mathematics teachers who want to explore the fascinating connections between mathematics, brain science, and emerging technologies in AI.

Through interactive presentations, hands-on activities, and discussions, we will explore key mathematical concepts that underpin models of brain function and learning, including:

  • Functions, patterns, and feedback loops in modeling neural processes
  • Networks and graph theory as tools to represent brain connectivity and artificial neural networks
  • Probability, statistics, and information theory in learning models and decision-making
  • Basic concepts of differential equations and dynamical systems as applied to neural activity and brain dynamics
  • Linear algebra and matrices in the architecture of artificial neural networks
  • Participants will leave with classroom-ready examples and ideas for integrating these topics into their teaching to inspire students with real-world connections between mathematics and cutting-edge science.

Takeaways include:

  • Teaching resources and activity ideas
  • Digital tools and simulations (including optional GeoGebra integration)
  • Guidance on how to adapt advanced ideas for high school-level engagement
  • A deeper appreciation for the role of mathematics in understanding the brain and AI systems

Who should attend:

  • High school mathematics teachers interested in interdisciplinary STEM education, neuroscience, or the mathematical foundations of artificial intelligence.

FACILITATOR :  Dr. Kasia Winkowska-Nowak

This workshop will take place from 8:00am - 12:00pm.
