Parents’ Bill of Rights

Florida Atlantic University Lab Schools is committed to honoring the rights of parents and promoting parental involvement in our school system. In accordance with Chapter 1014, Florida Statutes, and specifically in s. 1014.05, F.S.-School district notifications on parental rights, our school board passed the Parents’ Bill of Rights Policy recognizing the fundamental rights of parents and guardians to direct the upbringing, education, and care of their minor children.

Instructional Materials

As part of the Parents’ Bill of Rights, parents have the right to inspect the district’s instructional materials. Below are the Instructional Materials and Digital Resources used at FAU Lab Schools.

It is the constitutional duty and responsibility of the FAU Lab Schools to adopt and provide adequate instructional materials to all students of the District, whether the materials are selected from Florida Department of Education (FDOE) approved materials list or through a local selection process. Please see the FDOE’s timeline and process for adoption of instructional materials.

The Education Committee of the School Advisory Body (SAB) is responsible for ranking, eliminating, and selecting instructional materials.  This committee should include parents and school personnel. For each adoption cycle, subject-area experts may be recruited to serve on the Education Committee. Each member of the Education Committee will participate in the Library Media Training provided by the Florida Department of Education as required by law under s. 1006.28(2)(d) and s.10006.29(6) Florida Statutes.

During the 2023-2024 school year, we will be evaluating science textbooks for adoption for the 2024-2025 school year.
